A nightclub customer was left looking like something out of a horror movie after a tourist allegedly smashed a glass into his face in a crowded bar. Paul Fisher was seen on CCTV moving through the club in Torquay before and after the alleged attack but the incident itself was in a blind spot, Exeter Crown Court was told. Fisher, who runs a bar in Surrey, was seen on CCTV getting into a taxi outside the Club Mambo on The Strand in Torquay and traced to the nearby Gleaneagles Hotel where he was staying. He was arrested in the bar with a bloodstained shirt within minutes of the alleged attack, which left victim Mario Montinaro with a broken cheekbone, cuts on his face, and a piece of glass wedged in his neck. Fisher, aged 34, of Northwood Avenue, Knaphill, Woking, denies wounding. Mr James Taghdissian, prosecuting, said Fisher and the victim had been out together earlier in the evening but were in different parts of Club Mambo in the moments before the attack. He played the jury a compilation of CCTV extracts which showed Fisher going up to the first floor of the club and into an area with a bar and a dance floor. It went on to show him walking away through the club at speed after the incident and getting into a taxi. Throughout he is wearing a check light blue shirt. In the early footage he has a glass in one hand and a light blue top in the other, but he is no longer holding the glass when he leaves. Mr Taghdissian said the victim was standing close to the bar with a friend called Alex Green when Fisher pushed towards them. He said:"The defendant appeared desperate to get away. He barged past, pulling people out of the way. He stopped in front of Mr Montinaro, having knocked Mr Green into the bar. "Mr Montinaro described being pushed into a doorway and Mr Green saw a flailing arm sweep at Mr Montinaro's chest. "The sweeping movement must have involved a glass because it smashed into his face and neck. It left him injured and covered in blood and in his friend's words, looking like something out of a horror movie. "We say this was a deliberate act, sweeping his hand while holding the glass. It smashed, causing cuts to the face. A piece of glass went into the neck and had to be removed." Fisher made no comment in interview. The Trial Continues
