The A30 in Monkton is was closed today after a collision that left one vehicle on its roof and a casualty being airlifted to hospital.
Police fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene at 1:55pm today.
Police report one car hit a tree and another overturned.
An elderly woman has been airlifted to Derriford hospital with serious leg injuries.
The collision involved a Ford Galaxy with five people inside, all described as 'walking wounded' by police.
The second vehicle was a Nissan.
The road remains closed and delays are ongoing.
A representative of the fire service said:
"One fire appliance from Honiton and one fire appliance from Ottery St Mary were sent to a report of a road traffic collision at the above location.
"The collision involved two vehicles and one person was trapped. Fire crews released a female person from one of the vehicles using hydraulic rescue equipment. The casualty was then taken to hospital by air ambulance."
