Drinkers will be banned from plaguing a city park from Christmas Eve.
Neighbourhood police in the St Thomas area of Exeter recently applied for the Section 30 dispersal order in order to prevent unwanted drinkers congregating in the pleasure ground.
And the application has been successful, with the local police superintendent signing off the order and agreeing to it being in place by Monday, December 24.
The Section 30 will last for six months and gives both police officers and PCSOs the power to disperse groups for anti-social behaviour for up to 24 hours.
The move comes just months after the Echo revealed police concerns over drinkers in the park.
The order covers St Thomas Pleasure Ground and surrounding streets.
Neighbourhood officers and local councillors say the group of drinkers cause "alarm and distress" to those using the park and nearby residents.
The drinkers are said to be in the park on a "daily basis" and police say they bring dogs with them which are not on leads.
