Residents in a village on the outskirts of the city were without power last night after an electricity post caught fire and spread to a nearby tree.
A fire crew from Danes Castle raced to the scene on Chapel Hill in Longdown at around 9pm last night.
Upon their arrival, crews found one transformer arcing and on fire.
A spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that "several" houses in the area were without power and Western Power officials were called-in.
The fire authority has not confirmed how many households were effected or for what duration.
At 9.40pm small areas of a nearby tree starting to catch fire which crews extinguished using a carbon monoxide extinguisher.
At 10.45pm, with crews had extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet and duty of care was left with Western Power.
