An ex Marine has been jailed for a sex attack on a sleeping woman after a judge heard a harrowing account of how the ordeal has destroyed her life. Glyn Jones, aged 60, had a long standing grudge against the victim and mocked her by standing naked and making monkey noises after his attack. She woke to find he had removed her underwear and was subjecting her to a painful assault with his fingers while pushing her face down into a pillow. Jones spent 20 years in the Marines and became notorious 20 years ago when he claimed to have been part of a unit which spied on Princess Diana while she was having an affair with James Hewitt at his home in Ebford, near Topsham. He had previously threatened the victim during a long vendetta and told her he was going to 'put a bullet in her head'. He attacked her in November 2012 when she was visiting a friend in Exmouth and by chance Jones went back to the same house after a heavy drinking session. The victim went to bed and woke to find herself being attacked in the early hours. Jones was jailed after a judge at Exeter Crown Court was read a moving impact statement in which she said her ordeal was like being raped and made worse by him dragging out the case for more than a year before admitting what he had done. He then delayed it further by asking to change his plea, changing his mind, and disputing the contents of her victim impact statement. In her moving account the woman told how the attack has wrecked her life and forced her to move from her home town of Exmouth. She said:"I am not the same person as I was before. He has taken away part of me. I have gone from being a bubbly, strong, happy person to someone who is scared and suffers panic attacks. I can't breathe. I feel terrified to the pit of my stomach and I cry every day. It has taken me over. "I can only sleep for three hours before I wake up screaming. I have a recurring dream and still feel him in me. I feel physically sick. However long I scrub myself I can never rid myself of the heartache inside me. "Jones has made a mockery of me and the justice system. I can never escape. I am in a personal prison. He will never feel my pain or understand the effect it has had on me, and it was all for his own self gratification. "I have been forced to move out of my home town. He knows what he has done is wrong but has shown no remorse." Jones, aged 60, of Berry Close, Exmouth, admitted assault by penetration and was jailed for four years. Recorder Mr Jonathan Fuller, QC, told him:"The woman was lying in bed and was vulnerable because she was asleep when you went in and assaulted her. Her impact statement shows you cause considerable psychological harm. "There are other aggravating features, first and foremost being your previous harassment of her. I am quite sure this assault was as much to do with your wish to humiliate your victim rather than any sexual gratification." Miss Emily Pitts, prosecuting, said Jones had been convicted of harassing the woman in 2009 and a restraining order had expired just weeks before the attack. The victim was in Exmouth for a night out and was staying with a friend in the town centre. When she went to bed she found Jones drunk and asleep on a landing. She went to bed but woke to find him pushing her head into her pillow face down while assaulting her in a way which caused great pain. She pushed him off and turned to see he was naked, waving his arms around and making 'woo, woo, woo' noises. She ran out of the room and to seek refuge with her host. Police were called and found Jones injured after the householder had smashed in the door of the room he was in and allegedly attacked him with a mallet. He initially denied touching the woman but changed his story after her DNA was found under his nails and claimed she had sexually assaulted him and forced his hand into her groin. Mr Brian Fitzherbert, defending, said Jones had served his country in the Royal Marines for 20 years and should be given credit for not requiring the victim to re-live her ordeal in the witness box. He said:"There are two sides to his character. He has a positive aspect as a loving father. His daughter and other family members are in court. He has no previous convictions for sexual offences." Jones made headlines all around the world in 1994 when he revealed he had been part of a secret surveillance team who monitored Princess Di's movements to ensure her safety. He said he had hidden in undergrowth close to the back garden of her lover James Hewitt's then home in Ebford, near Exeter, and seen them having alfresco sex. He has featured in newspaper articles around the world more recently in which he has supported theories that British special forces may have had some role in the Princess' death in 1997. He said Worthington now appreciates he must stop making the calls and that they represent a serious offence.
