A retired football coach is to face trial at Exeter Crown Court after pleading not guilty to sexual assaults on boys in the 1970s. Anthony Mitchell, aged 77, denied five charges and a date has been set for a trial in December of this year by Judge Erik Salomonsen. Mitchell, of Foxhayes Road, Exeter, denies indecency with two boys and inciting them to indecency with each other between 1974 and 1975. He also denies two indecent assaults and assault with intent to commit a sexual offence on a third boy aged 12 to 15 between 1974 and 1977. The final charge alleges indecent assault on a boy aged 11 to 13 between 1973 and 1976. The judge granted Mitchell bail and set his trial for December 1, when it is expected to last more than a week.
