Devon and Cornwall police have issued a warning after a naked teenage boy was tasered by police after he tried to attack paramedics called to a Devon house where four youths were found suffering the life-threatening effects of a "legal high".
In remarkable scenes, four ambulances and a rapid response vehicle were called to a property in Clarence Road, Torpoint, at just before 7.30am on Sunday.
The four boys – all aged between 17 and 19 – had been found by an occupant of the property, suffering what appeared to be the effects of some kind of drug.
It was later found they had consumed a New Psychoactive Substance – the official term for what is more commonly known as a 'legal high' – which had been legitimately purchased via the internet.
The packaging on the product was stamped with warnings and labels urging buyers not to consume to contents.
Three police officers were also called to the address to assist the paramedics who were trying to administer medical treatment to the teens.
The Plymouth Herald report that one of the teens began acting in a violent manner and launched himself at members of the emergency services. Efforts to calm the naked teen failed and as a result, he was Tasered by an officer.
As paramedics grew increasingly concerned at the state of the boys, all four were taken to Derriford Hospital under police escort.
It is understood one was considered to be in a life-threatening condition, but the efforts of medical staff resulted in all four making full recoveries.
A police spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing regarding the availability, acquisition and chemical composition of the substance involved on this occasion and a police investigation into associated criminal offences are under way, including assault on a police officer and common assault.
"We are reminding people to be extremely cautious regarding any experimentation with so-called 'legal highs' as these substances can be extremely dangerous."
Police have confirmed that two other people were arrested at the property on suspicion of being in possession of cannabis. Both were granted street bail until a later date.
