More than 20 employers and training providers will be offering careers advice and aiming to fill vacancies at an event in Honiton. The East Devon Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair is taking place on Friday, June 27, from 10am to 4pm at Honiton Leisure Centre in School Lane. The event is being organised by Tiverton and Honiton MP Neil Parish in association with the National Apprenticeship Service and Jobs Centre Plus. Local businesses taking part include Axminster Carpets, River Cottage, HepcoMotion, Deer Park Country House Hotel and the Land Rover Experience, as well as national employers such as the Army, Royal Navy and BT. Devon County Council and East and Mid Devon District Councils will be represented alongside the British Heart Foundation and the Donkey Sanctuary. Mr Parish said: "This jobs fair shows that Devon is open for business and open for jobs." He added: "Devon has one of the fastest growing economies in the UK with the county worth over £19 billion and is the largest in South West England. "With so many innovative businesses I believe that young people have a bright future here in Devon and whether it is through getting a job, volunteering with a charity or doing an apprenticeship they will have the skills and confidence to have a fulfilling career. "I would like to thank the businesses, the local councils and charities who agreed to take part and I would especially like to thank Honiton Community College for hosting the Jobs Fair." Glenn Smith, principal of Honiton Community College, said: "It is essential that our young adults receive first class careers information, advice and guidance prior to making important, life changing decisions. "The cutbacks and consequential downscaling of the careers and advice service on a national level mean it is evermore essential that schools and colleges work in partnership with employers, training providers and our local authority to ensure the quality of provision is maintained. "I too would like to echo Mr Parish's thanks to the many businesses, councillors and charities that are working together to make this event a reality. Finally, I would like to thank Mr Parish himself for being the catalyst for what I hope will become an annual event in the East Devon calendar."
