A group of three hunters helped save a man's life this morning after he fell into a brook in Exwick. The hunters heard the man's cries near St Andrews Road, Exeter and found him clinging to a tree in the water. It is believed he had taken a wrong turn while walking back to his home in Exwick and slipped into the brook which had swollen to around 6ft deep. The male was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia after being recovered by the fire service using an extension ladder. The fire service received the call at 1.17am and two appliances from Exeter and Topsham attended St Andrews Road, Exwick, Exeter, with the Specialist Rescue Tender from Bridgwater. Devon and Somerset Police have received several calls regarding floods in the region and The Environment Agency is advising people to stay away from seafronts, quaysides and jetties along the coast. High tides, gale force winds and persistent rain led to a continuing risk of coastal flooding across several parts of the South West. One fifth of a month's rain fell on already saturated ground in Devon and Cornwall, as the wet winter continued to wreak havoc in the region. Ten flood warnings and a further 26 flood alerts remained in place last night following the latest deluge.Read more on 'Misery of the floods returns to Devon and Cornwall' here.
