A collection of Exeter musicians and football fans have joined together to record a new anthem for Exeter City Football Club and to raise money for the Adam Stansfield Foundation. The song is available for our users to listen to below before the CD goes on sale at Saturday's game. The CD will include a rendition of 'Go West' and will be available to buy for a recommended £3 prior to the derby match against Plymouth. Money from the sales will go to a good cause with 75% donated to the Adam Stansfield Foundation and 25% will be put towards other causes chosen by the ExEC100 Club. The lead vocals are provided by Phil Smyth, son of Exeter City legend Cecil Smyth who played 273 times for the Grecians in the 1960s. The lyrics were written by Steve Gibbings, a local DJ and music manager. He told thisisexeter: "I wanted to wrtite an anthem for Exeter City which the fans could sing aloing with and as the fans normally sing Ohhh Arrrr We Are Exeter it was a progression to write something catchy to Go West." Adding: "I hope this song will form part of the current teams anthems and hope that fans will sing it for years to come .Just hoping it catches on this season. I wanted to give a special mention in the Song to Adam Stansfield and the line Together were gonna play our part - With Stanno in our Hearts sums it up really he is Exeter's number 9 and was tragically taken from us to early in his life." The song will be played before the kickoff on Saturday and it is hoped that there will be a launch night in the near future with Phil performing live at the Centre Spot.
