Merry mayhem and classic theatre is promised by Tiverton-based Creative Cow when they bring their latest production home next week
The popular theatre company will be performing She Stoops to Conquer at Tiverton Community Theatre on May 27, as part of their Westcountry tour.
Oliver Goldsmith’s 18th-century comedy on snobbery and class has endured throughout the centuries and is presented in association with Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.
“It is a fabulous piece of classical comedy,” said Katherine Senior, actor and founder member of Creative Cow.
“You see bits of the plot used again and again in today’s sitcoms, proving how brilliant and insightful Goldsmith’s writing was.
“We love presenting this kind of good, comic and classical work and delighting our audiences around the country and we are very much looking forward to performing the show on our home turf. ”
She said the play was first performed in 1773, one year before the Irish playwright Goldsmith died. The central theme is mistaken identities, around which a whole lot of other confusion and mayhem ensue.
“Throw a bit of love, comedy and practical joking in and it all lays the ground for a hilarious evening out.
She Stoops to Conquer can be seen at the Tiverton Community Theatre on May 27. For tickets and more information visit www.creativecow.co.uk
