Five Exeter Chiefs players have been named in England's training squad ahead of the annual game against the Barbarians and summer tour to New Zealand. Tom Johnson and the uncapped Sam Hill, Dave Ewers, Luke Cowan-Dickie and Henry Slade have been called up by head coach Stuart Lancaster. And Chiefs boss Rob Baxter believes it is a great opportunity for the quintet to show what they can do on the big stage. Baxter said: "Obviously we're delighted to see so many of our lads get the call-up from Stuart to join the training squad. All of them have enjoyed a good season here at the Chiefs and now it's up to them to continue and take that good form into the training camp coming up. "It's a big opportunity for all of them to go out and show what they can do and who knows they could yet have a part to play against the Barbarians or even go on tour to New Zealand. "Again it shows the work we are doing here at the club, working with young English players, is paying dividends. In the long term I've no doubt we will reap real rewards from that work, but for now I wish all five players the best of luck and hope they do themselves and the club proud." Lancaster has named a squad of 20 players for the training camp, but only from the Chiefs, Gloucester, London Irish, Newcastle, Sale and Worcester as their seasons have finished. Further players will be added to the squad from the six remaining Premiership clubs when their domestic and European campaigns are over. Back-row forward Johnson, who won his sixth and seventh England caps during this season's Six Nations, retains his place while Hill, Ewers and Slade were part of the Saxons squad earlier this year. Former England under-20s ace Cowan-Dickie, however, was injured at the start of this season and has won his first senior call-up. The final squads for the New Zealand tour and the Barbarians match will be announced at midday on Monday, May 26. Lancaster said: "The New Zealand tour and the game against the Barbarians give us a chance to look at a wide group of players, some of whom are well known to us from the Elite Player Squad, others who we will get to work with for the first time next week. "That is an exciting challenge for us coaches and it's a great opportunity for those players to put a marker down for selection for the tour and the Barbarians game." England training squad: Kieran Brookes (Newcastle), Freddie Burns (Gloucester), Danny Cipriani (Sale), Luke Cowan-Dickie, Dave Ewers, Sam Hill, Tom Johnson (all Exeter Chiefs), Matt Kvesic, Jonny May, Ben Morgan (all Gloucester), Michael Paterson (Sale), Chris Pennell (Worcester), Dan Robson, Charlie Sharples (Gloucester), Henry Slade (Exeter Chiefs), Tommy Taylor, Henry Thomas (Sale), Henry Trinder, Billy Twelvetrees (Gloucester) and Marland Yarde (London Irish)
