CITY POSTBAG: No real surprises as Exeter City announce retained list

There were no real surprises in Paul Tisdale's retained list, because of budget restraints, but looking at it from a fan's point of view I cannot understand why we need Eliot Richards and Matt Gill unless they are cover for Jimmy Keohane and Matt Oakley. Possibly Gill and Oakley could share the season because of their age. It is good to see the squad littered with young talent though, especially as Tisdale says he's building a homegrown team. Let's hope he sticks to his word, because watching these young guns maturing could be one of the most exciting seasons we've had for a while. The club has no money to spend, so it will be difficult to make new signings, but I think it would be worth giving James Norwood another chance. He has been scoring goals for fun for Forest Green this season. The club has had to release players and reduce wages of other players because of the financial picture, so surely for the sake of the club the whole coaching side and board should take a look at themselves. I think they should reduce their wages, after all they have performed no better than the players this past season. It would be good to see the club move onto a more level platform, because the supporters have had to dig deep into their pockets because of the ticket price increase. Everyone else has had to suffer, so why not at the top end of the club? One last thought for next season, put together a young exciting and entertaining team. That is the only way the fans will drift back in and then the financial situation will ease. Kenny Cleal Feniton
