If you are stung by a jellyfish don't wee on yourself – is the warning from a charity to Westcountry beachgoers.
The British Red Cross says urine lacks any medical benefits and the old wives' tail that it will soothe the wound is a myth.
The warning comes after an influx of jellyfish have washed up on beaches in the region.
Recently a giant barrel jellyfish washed up on the shores of Exmouth, with a further nine sightings around the south coast.
Joe Mulligan, head of first aid at the British Red Cross, said: "Urine doesn't carry the correct chemical make-up to ease the pain of a jellyfish sting. Vinegar or salty sea water is a far better solution."
Vinegar contains acid which is said to neutralise the pain of a jellyfish sting.
