Motorists heading northbound on the M5 motorway from Tiverton faced delays this morning after an accident has closed the exit for Taunton.
The incident happened at around 8.20am during rush hour traffic this morning.
The exit at Junction 25 for Taunton was closed and the Highways Agency is describing the accident as 'severe'.
It is reported that traffic on the motorway is currently slow and queuing.
Drivers are being diverted via Junction 24 for Bridgewater South.
Avon and Somerset Police tweeted: "Northbound exit slip-road at J25 (Taunton) CLOSED due to an RTC. Diversion via J24 (Bridgwater South). Expect delays."
Emergency services are on the scene.
