Paul Tisdale will not be leaving Exeter City to become Portsmouth manager after the Fratton Park side appointed Riche Barker instead.
The Grecians last week confirmed that they had allowed Pompey to talk to Tisdale after making an approach for the City boss.
But news emerged before the weekend that ex-Crawley boss Barker was set to be appointed on Monday with Steve Coppell as director of football – the same arrangement they had at Crawley.
Both of those appointments have now been confirmed by the South coast club, meaning Tisdale and Oxford United boss Chris Wilder – also heavily linked with the role – look to be staying put.
Barker, who was sacked at the end of November after a 16-month spell at Crawley, has penned a rolling contract.
He replaces Guy Whittingham, who was also sacked at the end of November.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for me. I'm very excited to be at this club with its great history," said Barker.
