As these pictures show, work is well underway to create this year's Christmas Market at Cathedral Green. Organisers claim the market will attract thousands of visitors with stalls offering unique, handmade and unusual gifts, decorations and food items. It returns for a second year, combining products from local traders and traders from around the globe. As well as quality produce, it offers unique seasonal charm, following in the tradition of Christmas markets throughout Europe. It opens on Thursday, November 21, to coincide with the Christmas lights switch-on. Visitors can enjoy a fresh mug of hot Gluwhein in a specially designed Exeter Christmas Market mug while the sound of the cathedral choristers fills the air. With more than 50 traders, the Christmas market is even bigger and better this year, offering visitors a journey around the globe. Hungry festive shoppers can feast on roast hog, Belgian chocolates, Baklava, crepes, speciality cheeses and meats from across the continent. Local retailers will make up 20 per cent of the traders who will be selling a wide range of traditional Christmas crafts and local foods. Nick Rhodes, chief executive of Market Place Europe, said: "We are delighted to be returning to Exeter and to be providing new retail experiences that will enhance Christmas shopping for everyone. We are especially thrilled to be setting up our Christmas market on the Cathedral Green, a very special venue that captures the essence of Exeter." The market will run until Thursday, December 19. It is open Monday to Wednesday, 10am to 7pm; Thursday to Saturday, 10am to 9pm and Sunday 11am to 6pm.
