VINTAGE cars were showcased alongside modern alternative energy vehicles at an annual event in Sidmouth. Instead of staging two separate events, the Sidmouth Classic Car Show and the Green Vehicle Show joined forces for the first time.

It was the collaborative effort between the Sid Valley Energy Action Group, Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce and the Crash Box Club of Devon with Sidmouth Cricket Club where the event was held.

The Sid Valley Energy Action Group aims to promote energy efficiency and the use of clean renewable energy sources throughout the Sid Valley.

The day was declared a huge success with visitors and residents enjoying the show and finding out about green energy cars including hybrid and electric vehicles. Derek Chant, chairman of the Sid Valley Energy Action Group, said: "The event was a unique meeting of the old and the new – a rare chance for motoring enthusiasts of all ages to see the best of the past and the future.

"Providing a fascinating contrast to the beautifully preserved classic and vintage cars that will be on display at the cricket ground, were a selection of the latest alternative energy vehicles. These demonstrated how technology is being used to produce fuel efficient and low emission transport. The aim was to encourage our local community members to think about how they can save energy and reduce their carbon emissions."
