CRANBROOK children have selected their preferred design of a £240,000 play space in the town.

The chosen design, which includes sensory play boards, an Explorers' Island with boat and barrel, animal rockers and a toddlers' play house, was designed by Eibe – a specialist play equipment company.

Eibe was one of five companies who were invited to produce design concepts for the community to vote on.

As part of the process children told East Devon District Council they liked climbing, swinging, spinning and sliding, while they were also keen on a water theme with bright colours, water play and a big slide.

The youngsters were invited to select their favourite designs at open sessions and during assembly at St Martin's Primary and Nursery.

Cllr Iain Chubb said: "All of the submitted designs were fantastic.

"The play specialists really listened to the brief and what was important to the children.

"The chosen design was a firm winner with the community and I believe they will make an excellent and very much welcome addition to the community."

Once finished the selected design will also include a play area for children of early school age, a play area for older children and a multi-use games area designed for young people up to the age of 18.
