A DOCTOR is to keep his job at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital despite being caught more than three times the drink drive limit.

Dr Nathaniel Cartwright hit the bottle – after his wife had an affair while he was working on the other side of the world – and was caught the morning after a heavy session.

The 37-year-old doctor, who was working at the hospital, had drunk a large amount of alcohol the night before he was stopped in his silver Skoda Octavia estate car.

Prosecutor Philip Sewell said Knox Cartwright, from Sefton Park Road, Bristol, had only driven a short distance when he was stopped after police were alerted.

Exeter magistrates Court heard he had been working in Australia, and while he was away his wife had an affair and this had caused marital difficulties which drove him to drink. He admitted the offence.

The court fined him a total of £1,625 and banned him from driving for two years.
