THE chairman of the Exeter Anti-Slavery Group has expressed his delight after more than £2,000 was raised at its 35th annual summer party.
Held at The Globe in Lympstone, the "sherry morning", as it is known, was the most successful to date.
Chairman Graham Martin said: "In a new home and with a grand summer draw to raise vital funds, together with donations, we definitely seem to have found the way forward.
"Courtesy of the new licensees, who provided truly gourmet food, we also thank those who offered us 71 prizes."
He added: "The event was privileged to have the Lord Mayor of Exeter attend in her capacity as a vice-chairman of the group and the event commenced with bagpiper John Goss-Custard, resplendent in his full Scottish regalia, giving a medley of familiar tunes Lauren and Dave Moxon and other performances came from John Billington, Tim Jupp, Nigel Challies and Bicton Street Blues. We will be back here in 2014, on Sunday July 27."
