A FORMER school caretaker's house met a buoyant demand when offered to sale on Thursday, May 23 by Thorne & Carter Auctioneers and Estate Agents.

From a maiden bid of £100,000, eventually the bidding rose to £162,500, at which point the property at 11 Exeter Road in Cullompton was sold to Ms Salters of Exeter.

In more recent years the building had been used as an adult learning centre. Recent adjustments in the boundary fences had opened a large garden and included two parking spaces.

The detached building, which has an overall floor area of 1300sq ft had a Lawful Development Certificate for use as a single dwelling, and would provide a spacious four-bedroomed townhouse.

There was also interest for uses similar to its most recent community use. The guide price was £150,000.

Clive Madge, the auctioneer, said: "The price achieved showed there is still interest for a good project, and with a range of possible uses it has shown how the auction process works well."

Thorne & Carter acted for Devon County Council – the sellers of the property.
