FOR a great value day trip, take the train.
Not only do Devon and Cornwall boast some of the nicest, most scenic train trips in the country, they also offer some great-value fares for days out too.
An off-peak day return ticket is valid after the morning peak period on weekdays, returning any time the same day. You can travel any time at weekends.
Some example adult fares are – Exeter to Exmouth £4, Paignton to Barnstaple £9.50, Plymouth to Looe £5.40 and St Austell to Falmouth £5.80.
Children aged between five to 15 travel at half fare, under fives go free. Better still, four people can travel for the price of two adults off-peak day return fares with group save on First Great Western trains.
Local residents can save even more money on adult and child fares with a Devon and Cornwall Railcard which costs £10 and gives big discounts on off-peak fares for a whole year.
