RETIRED police officers Kevin and Sheila McCann, who have just bought their second brand new Cavanna Home in seven years, are the first residents to move in to the Westcountry home builder's latest development Aspects at Dawlish.
Relocating from Essex to Devon in 2006, the couple bought their first Cavanna home – a two-bedroom property on Chestnut Crescent in Chudleigh. Seven years later, following a visit to Cavanna's latest seaside development at Dawlish – the couple were so impressed that they decided to put a deposit on a new home.
Kevin commented: "We always planned to settle in Devon, as Sheila grew up in the Alphington area of Exeter and we spent many happy family holidays in the South West," explained Kevin.
"Our first Cavanna home in Chudleigh was ironically called a Constable," said former detective Kevin, who retired from the Metropolitan Police after 32 years to take up employment with Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in Ashburton.
More recently, the McCanns began looking for a home which offered more space. "We knew that Cavanna had a new development in Dawlish," said Kevin, "and one day when we were going out to do some shopping we thought we'd take a look."
By chance, it was the first day that the site, 'Aspects', was open for viewings. The couple liked what they saw so much that they made a near-instant decision to purchase a four-bedroom Kensington townhouse. "We went out to do some shopping and came back with a house," said Kevin.
The McCanns moved into their new home in April, and Kevin says that he and Sheila love everything about the house, from the space, layout and design to the views – as well as the added reassurance of buying a second home from the Torquay-based developer.
An additional factor in their decision was proximity to the coast, countryside and transport links, a major selling point of the development. The A380 and A38 are only a short drive away, useful for Sheila who now works as a teaching assistant at Newton Abbot College.
The McCanns say they tend to shop in nearby Newton Abbot, but also make the 20-minute drive to the park and ride for Exeter. The train from Dawlish to Exeter St David's is also a short journey of only 12 minutes.
"The sea is a short, five-minute walk away and there is woodland literally just outside our front door," said Kevin. "Once we've finished unpacking we'll be making the most of this lovely location."
Cavanna Homes' sales manager Lynn Worley said: 'Aspects' really does live up to its name, and potential buyers have been captivated by the views and the location. I strongly advise a visit to Aspects – you won't be disappointed with what you see."
The development of 118 homes is set within a mature wooded and landscaped area and offers a variety of properties from two-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom detached homes, with prices starting at £139,995.
The properties are built to the highest standards with a 10-year NHBC warranty and customer support available for a further two years after purchase. Cavanna Homes has also been awarded the Home Builders Federation's maximum five-star accolade for customer satisfaction, which ranks feedback from buyers of new homes eight weeks after they move in – an award received by only 16 developers nationally.
