Exeter's jobless total dropped slightly last month, official figures show.
The number of people on the dole in the city fell by 16 from 1,994 in February to 1,978 in March.
This is down on the 2,369 claimants recorded for the same month last year.
In East Devon the claimant count also fell from 1,315 in February to 1,298 last month, and in Mid Devon from 951 to 916.
But in Teignbridge, the number of people on Jobseekers Allowance rose from 1,617 to 1,639.
Unemployment across the South West rose by 20,000 to 167,000 in the quarter to February, giving a jobless rate of 6.2 per cent, which although representing an increase remains the lowest in the UK, according to the Office for National Statistics.
