The season may soon be drawing to a close but today offers a great chance to enjoy a packed race card at Haldon Hill in the spring sunshine.
The day kicks off with a novice hurdle at 2pm run over two miles seven furlongs and preference is Loudmouth for the Charlie Longsdon stable who could score again after winning over hurdles at Fontwell last time out.
Count Guido Deiro for the Twiston-Davies team looks well suited for the trip in the next – a handicap hurdle at 2.30 again run over two miles seven furlongs.
The 3pm marathon handicap chase over three miles and six furlongs looks a competitive renewal and there will no doubt be a lot of support for course favourite Sea Saffron who won the race last year for local trainer Sue Gardner. But there are several dangers in the race and with the field expected to go a gruelling gallop, Double Dizzy, trained by Bob Buckler and ridden by Andrew Glassonbury, could emerge from the pack.
The hugely consistent seven-year-old Gizzit who gave a good account coming second last time out at Exeter could go one better in the two mile one furlong handicap hurdle while Theatre Guide for the Tizzard team looks the stand-out class act in the novice chase at 4.10pm. ADD: Theatre Guide is now a non-runner so the preference passes to Coole River.
French Canadian looks set to battle favourite Lucette Annie in the 4.45pm novice chase and with not much between the two the former has the edge due to its better odds.
The day finishes with two bumpers and Boogie in the Barn for Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson and Know More Oats for Devon's Victor Dartnall could send punters home on a high.
