Crew volunteers from Exmouth RNLI are organising a sale of pre-loved boat and water sport equipment at the lifeboat station on Sunday 14 April between 9am and noon. Volunteer Sea Safety Officer, Peter Williams will also be available to give free advice and to check visitors' lifejackets.
At the annual fundraising event, the public are invited to pay £10 per space to sell their own equipment. Alternatively, items can be donated to the volunteers to sell on the RNLI table during the morning. Please contact Roger Jackson on 07770 583235 or Peter Thomas on 07792 555835, for more details.
There will be refreshments available throughout the morning. All proceeds will be contributing towards the launch & recovery vehicle appeal for the new Shannon-class lifeboat, due at Exmouth RNLI in 2014.
Volunteer Sea Safety Officer, Peter Williams will be running a free lifejacket clinic and offering free advice. Peter comments;
'Lifejacket design has progressed and modern lifejackets are compact, lightweight and easy to wear. The correct fitting of the lifejacket is vital so that it functions correctly for the wearer - this is an extremely important aspect of the design of the lifejacket.'
'Around 30% of lifejackets checked each year by RNLI Sea Safety Advisers would fail to operate correctly when deployed – this is very scary statistic which can be reduced with a few simple checks. A really bad time to discover a faulty lifejacket is when you are in the water and dependent on it for survival!'
