Exeter City welcomed two separate pairs of 'groundhoppers' who were aiming to join the '92 Club' at their latest home game.
The Grecians grabbed three points with a 2-0 win against Accrington Stanley while playing host to two separate pairs of intrepid travellers set on visiting the grounds of all 92 Football League and Premier League clubs in England and Wales.
First up was father-daughter duo of Neil and Charlie Bastin, who had travelled down from Cheshire to see the match, combining it with a visit to Somerset neighbours Yeovil Town the following day. It was daughter Charlie's idea to go for the project, with dad Neil only too happy to join in. Exeter was their 32nd club and Charlie was particularly impressed with being able to meet Guillem Bauza post-match, having noted before the game that he had 'lovely hair'.
The other pair of groundhopping visitors were two European travellers, Björn Mehlhorn and his friend Jörg Kleinert – both hailing from Germany where they support hometown club Eintracht Braunschweig.
They frequently travel to England to visit different clubs, and have so far racked up an impressive total of 72 separate stadia. They too were combining Friday at St James Park with the Saturday at Yeovil's Huish Park, and after a ground tour at Exeter, met up with Neil and Charlie in the club's Flybe hospitality suite to compare notes.
Exeter City's business development manager Bruce Henderson was one of many staff at the club who helped play host to the visitors on the night and had dealt with both of the initial enquiries. He said: "It was a super atmosphere at the club on Friday with a feeling of camaraderie amongst the groundhoppers and the other guests in hospitality. It is so nice to be able to welcome different people, especially ones that have taken so much time, trouble and expense to visit our club. It would be great to see them all back again one day."
