Exeter City vice-chairman and chief executive Julian Tagg has said he is open to the idea of future home games being played on a Friday night, after the recent success of playing Accrington Stanley.
Just under 4,000 fans turned out for the experiment and were rewarded with a 2-0 win, with Jimmy Keohane scoring both of Exeter's goals.
The decision to bring the game forward divided supporters, with London exiles unhappy as they had no way of returning after the game. Other supporter groups were also affected, but it did allow those unable to attend games on a Saturday a rare chance to see the Grecians in action.
Only 60 away fans were in attendance last week, but the figure of 3,924 was better than several home attendances this season.
"Our fans, as always, were great. It can be difficult to predict the turn-out at the best of times, but when you move the day and time it adds an extra element of uncertainty," Tagg said.
"However, on the evening, our supporters came up trumps and helped to cheer us on to a crucial victory."
Tagg added: "I know playing on a Friday night is not universally popular, however, the turn-out demonstrated that for a lot of people it works.
"I am keeping an open mind and, should the opportunity arise for a Friday night game next season, it will be considered as part of the mix."
Exeter supporter Darren Andrews, from St Thomas, said: "Although I enjoy the ritual of Saturday afternoon at the Park, this made a nice change. If there was a clash with a big international or cup game on a Saturday, I think it makes sense to have Friday as an option."
Incredibly, Exeter have won only twice at home on a Saturday this season, leading some to joke that all games should be played on a Tuesday or Friday evening. As well as beating Accrington, the Grecians have also beaten AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe Wanderers in midweek, with their only two Saturday wins coming against Burton Albion and Southend United, both of whom are play-off rivals, and both by a 3-0 scoreline.
The decision to play on a Friday also worked for manager Paul Tisdale, who said: "I was very pleased with the way it went. It was a good night for football, the weather was mild and the ground has hardened up a bit.
"The pitch was better than a couple of weeks ago and it was a nice difference. It was a Friday night, people were focused on coming to the game and, as a pointed difference, I think it worked."
