Police have confirmed that a body was found in the River Exe earlier today. At about midday emergency services were called to the River Exe near to the Tally Ho! where a group of kayakers had found a body. Ambulance staff attended but the man was declared dead at the scene. His body has been recovered by the fire service and removed by the undertaker. His identity is not certain at this time. The Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat was also tasked to help in the search for a vulnerable man reported missing in the early hours of yesterday. The search was stood down after a sighting by a member of the public, a canoeist at 1pm today. The three-man volunteer crew carried out a thorough shore-line search from Shelley Beach in Exmouth, up to Countess Wear in the city of Exeter. Helmsman Charles Swales describes their route "We carried out the search as far as we could. When we ran out of water at the bridge at Countess Wear, we came back down with the tide, retracing our steps for a secondary search." More to follow.
