UPDATE: Police investigating armed robbery at Ernest Jones jewellers in Exeter High Street

UPDATE: Police are investigating a major armed robbery in Exeter High Street this morning. Just before 9am today a black Jaguar drove down Queen Street and pulled up outside Ernest Jones. Three men in black clothing were seen to get out, they used hammers to smash down the door. A number of expensive Rolex watches were stolen. One member of staff was in the shop at the time and they managed to shut themselves away in a secure space. The thieves ran off in the direction of John Lewis and got into a black Jaguar. Following an extensive search of the area, police located the vehicle in Sainsbury's car park in Alphington. It is believed a member of staff suffered injuries from smashed glass. Police have spoken to a number of witnesses and the police helicopter was also spotted at the scene. An investigation is continuing. The front door of the shop has been smashed in and police have sealed off the area while they investigate. It is understood a number of items may have been stolen.
